Nordic Spruce is a naturally light and elastic timber species with excellent inherent strength and a naturally pale, fine-grained surface that responds to weathering in a distinctive and architecturally desirable way.
When left untreated, fire tempered Nordic Spruce develops a characteristic silver-grey patina over time as the surface weathers and silvers — a natural process that produces a surface which reads as an organic part of the landscape and has become highly sought-after in contemporary architectural projects in rural, coastal, semi-rural and peri-urban settings. The fire tempering process significantly enhances the spruce’s natural resistance to moisture, pests, biological attack and weathering, delivering a level of durability and low maintenance that untreated spruce cannot achieve on its own and making the product suitable for a wide range of UK external applications.
Available in 95mm, 120mm and 145mm widths, in 3m lengths and 16-18mm depth. Both flush and interlocking profile styles are available, applied in horizontal, vertical, diagonal and combined installation patterns to achieve the specific architectural effect required.
UV-resistant oils can be applied to maintain the original surface tone if the natural silver-grey patina is not the desired outcome. A fire retardant application can be specified as an additional option for projects with specific fire performance requirements. Outer corners and beams are available for a clean, complete installation. Fire Tempered Nordic Spruce co-ordinates fully with the Zakuna architectural product range for consistent external material specification.
