We are delighted with this striking installation for a new build property in Cheltenham, where our Topper Staircase has been designed to serve as both a functional centrepiece and a refined architectural statement. The brief called for a staircase that would feel modern yet rooted in traditional craftsmanship, and the result is a design that achieves precisely that balance.

Topper Staircase

The Topper Staircase features a 90 degree winder configuration, expertly engineered to navigate the turn with elegance and precision. A double wooden stringer and closed risers create a solid, stylish look with clean lines, lending the staircase a sense of permanence and quality that is immediately apparent. Every component has been carefully considered to ensure the design reads as a cohesive whole.

Parapet walls have been designed and built around the stairway to create a clean, minimalist aesthetic. This considered approach removes the need for traditional balustrades, allowing the natural beauty of the treads to take centre stage. The result is an uncluttered, contemporary look that draws the eye along the flowing lines of the staircase.

The treads themselves are crafted from Stained Oak at 40mm thickness, chosen for their durability and rich, warm character. Each tread features a 20mm overlap over the 40mm thickness closed risers, creating a refined step nose effect that adds subtle depth and shadow to the profile. This detail, while understated, contributes significantly to the architectural presence of the staircase.

LED lighting has been neatly concealed underneath each tread, casting a gentle ambient glow that highlights the architectural lines of the stairs. In the evening, this lighting transforms the staircase into a dramatic feature, with soft illumination accentuating each step and creating beautiful interplay between light and shadow along the parapet walls.

Bespoke face fixed square Oak handrails have been fitted to the Parapet Wall to complete the design. Colour matched to the treads, these handrails provide a tactile finishing touch that ties the entire composition together, ensuring the staircase feels both luxurious and inviting from every angle.
