Zig-Zag Staircase – Reigate
Architectural Edge for a Bold Interior
The owners of this luxurious home in Reigate wanted to create a dramatic staircase with contemporary styling that would serve as the defining architectural feature of the interior. The design perfectly suits the internal space of this property and looks quite striking, a testament to the close collaboration between client and design team.
Challenger Staircase
Our Challenger Staircase with its distinctive ‘Zig-Zag’ styling is cleverly designed with the treads fixed neatly between the slim black steel strings. Chunky 100mm Oak treads are perfectly matched to the style and colour of the owner’s hallway flooring, ensuring a seamless visual transition between staircase and ground floor. This three flight stairway with open risers and winders looks great from all angles and all floors, its architectural presence felt throughout the home.
The Zig-Zag effect is enhanced by the clean lines of the frameless glass balustrades. The strings are doubled up to sandwich the glass balustrade with concealed glass fixings to enhance the visual effect, a detail that required precision engineering to achieve the clean, uninterrupted lines that characterise this installation. Balustrades are Toughened and Laminated Glass 17.5mm (8+8mm) to comply with building regulations, ensuring safety without compromising the transparency and lightness of the design.
Round stainless steel handrails are fitted to the wall and to some sides of the balustrade to complete the design. An internal glass screen between the hallway and the lounge nicely captures a section of the stairs, displaying the architectural lines of the zig-zag strings. This thoughtful glazed partition transforms the staircase into a living artwork, visible and appreciated from the adjacent living space, adding depth and visual interest to the ground floor layout.
Flush Plana P102 Interior Doors
A suite of Flush Plana P102 Interior Doors in Nero Ash were also installed throughout, their dark, contemporary finish matching the black steel strings of the stairs. The flush design and rich Nero Ash tone create a bold, understated presence at every doorway, perfectly complementing the angular drama of the Challenger Staircase. Together, the staircase and doors establish a cohesive design language that runs through the entire property.
