The Cadet Staircase is Zakuna’s classic expression of traditional staircase design — a timeless and versatile configuration featuring two solid wooden strings flanking the treads from either side.
This time-honoured design can be realised in either traditional period styling, celebrating the heritage craftsmanship that defines classical architecture, or as a contemporary modern interpretation that brings timber warmth to contemporary interiors. Available with closed or open risers, the Cadet Staircase accommodates kites, winders, half and quarter landings, offering surprising versatility within its classical aesthetic. The side strings can be crafted in natural woods with extensive finish options. Decorative balustrades, turned handrails, and period detailing can be incorporated to create a staircase that feels historically authentic whilst meeting contemporary safety and building regulations. The Cadet Staircase appeals equally to period property renovators and contemporary designers seeking timber character.
The Cadet Staircase demonstrates that classical design principles endure because they work. The side string configuration provides exceptional structural confidence whilst offering a canvas for architectural creativity.
Available with an extensive choice of natural woods and finishes, the Cadet Staircase can be customised to suit any interior aesthetic. Open or closed risers, decorative balustrades, turned handrails, and ornamental details allow the designer to create a bespoke expression of classical elegance. All Zakuna Cadet Staircases comply fully with UK building regulations. Our craftspeople work closely with architects and homeowners from initial concept through detailed joinery drawings, timber selection, and final installation.
