The Topper Staircase represents a contemporary celebration of traditional timber craftsmanship, featuring a distinctive design philosophy where two carefully crafted wooden stringers sit beneath the open treads.
Rather than the classical side string configuration, the Topper’s String Under Treads design creates a minimalist visual presentation — the treads float above the supporting strings, creating visual lightness and contemporary elegance. This modern interpretation of traditional joinery appeals to architects and homeowners seeking a staircase that honours timber craftsmanship whilst delivering contemporary sophistication. Available with open treads that showcase the engineering beneath, or with optional closed risers for a more traditional formal appearance, the Topper Staircase offers flexibility in aesthetic expression. The design can be crafted in natural woods and finishes. The clean lines and refined proportions make the Topper Staircase equally suited to period property renovations and contemporary new-build projects.
The Topper Staircase exemplifies how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design thinking can create exceptional results. The String Under Treads configuration is precisely engineered yet celebrates the warmth and character of timber construction.
All Zakuna Topper Staircases comply fully with UK building regulations and are engineered to exacting standards. Available with open or closed risers, the design offers aesthetic flexibility — open treads for a contemporary minimalist appearance, closed risers for traditional formality. Extensive choice of hardwoods and finishes available. Balustrades can be specified in glass, or with spindles or railings, and handrails. The design accommodates kites, winders, half and quarter landings, allowing navigation of complex spatial briefs.
