FSC: Chain of Custody

FSC chain of custody certification provides a credible assurance that products which are sold with an FSC claim originate from well-managed forests, controlled sources, or reclaimed materials.

The material used in the FSC chain of custody can come from a variety of sources. While the overwhelming majority comes from FSC-certified forests, the FSC chain of custody requirements also allow the introduction of reclaimed material that would otherwise go to waste, and material that has been assessed as a low risk of coming from unacceptable sources.

PEFC: Chain of Custody of Forest Based Products

PEFC Chain of Custody establishes the link from the forest to the market, tracking forest-based products from sustainable sources to the final product. PEFC chain of custody certification provides independent verified assurance that the certified forest-based material contained in a product originates from sustainably managed forests. It complements PEFC sustainable forest management certification, which ensures that forests are managed in line with challenging environmental, social and economic requirements.
