Crouch Hill - London

Working with interior designer and architect, Kim Cable of De Beauvoir Design, Zakuna initially offered 4 design concepts to be considered for an open staircase in a contemporary new build London property.

The brief was to create a visually stunning centrepiece, accentuating the openness of the internal space and external glass wall. Setting the 180 degree return and half landing fixed within the supporting pillars, whilst incorporating them into the design was an unusual challenge.

The Contender staircase with its central string was the perfect choice with its clean lines for a dramatic effect. The centralised handrail was designed to be a focal point with stainless steel spindles reaching full height. In contrast, the outer handrails and balustrades were in clear frameless glass for clean lines and a simple look to allow clear vision. The central string, spindles and fixing buttons were powder coating to colour match the supporting pillars.  

Deep 100mm solid oak treads, quarter sawn add a touch of colour and natural warmth to the staircase. The engineered wood flooring to the first floor level was ordered at the same time and colour matched for continuity of design.

The stairs were installed by the Zakuna team on a micro concrete resin floor system.
