Crittall Style Doors - Petersfield, Hampshire

Our client was refurbishing and extending his 1960’s large luxury home and wanted to keep the heritage and traditional feel of the property by fitting ‘Crittall style’ steel grid framed interior doors. With beautiful views to a wooded park and lake from the rear of the property, internal glazed doors were an essential component of the interior design to allow natural light in and to give unobstructed views from the front reception rooms of the house.

As steel doors were outside of the client’s budget, Zakuna designed a timber variation of a ‘Crittall style’ door, emulating the generic black metal, grid-frame features. Beading profiles were fixed to both sides of the door leaf to create the traditional feel of multiple glazed panels. The bespoke design, including a smoked black tint to the glass met all the requirements the client needed, including fire rated compliance. Within the project, Zakuna also designed and manufactured a matching solid door version for the ground floor bathroom, for privacy purposes.

Doors are heavy solid core, pine stiles and rails with oak lippings, with a door leaf thickness of 40mm. FSC approved, our woods are sourced from responsible, well-managed forests. The durable smooth spray-painted finish to RAL 7021 perfectly colour matched the client’s windows.

Zakuna internal doors are superior in quality, craftsmanship and design. The door leaf, lining and architraves are carefully matched for total cohesion.

SHORTLISTED FOR BEST GLAZED DOOR AWARDS 2022

After a rigorous first stage of judging, the expert panel of BUILD IT MAGAZINE put this Glass & Mirror F209 door through to the final stage of their judging. We were delighted to have been shortlisted for Best Joinery Product in the Build It Awards for 2022.

With a host of premium features including flexible door seals to provide a soft closure, prevent draughts and door slamming. For clean lines and a minimalistic look, concealed black hinges were hidden within the door return. Flush magnetic latches ensure automatic closure, a secure hold and easy opening.

Black sleek handles were chosen to enhance the traditional feel of the doors and create the perfect finishing touch.

The glazed doors sets were pre-hung in our factory. All door fittings are CNC precision drilled and factory fitted for perfect operation and alignment.

As part of Zakuna’s Pre-hung door sets, the frame incorporated a groove around the outside to accommodate the telescopic architraves, which slot into the frame, clamping the door set around the wall. The telescopic element allows up to 25mm fitting tolerance in the finished wall reveal depths. This allowed our client to order the doors earlier in the project with confidence of the fitting tolerances that our system offered.

Due to this system, the doors were installed by the client, at a late stage in the project which reduced the risk of damage by other trades on site, and whereby as the doors are made to measure, there was little to no cutting required during installation.

EASY TO INSTALL

Door leaves, frames, linings and architrave were then unassembled for shipping, and supplied loose for easy onsite assembly.  Our door sets are easy to install with reduced labour time and reduced costs on site.

In comparison to the traditional method of installing doors, a pre-hung door set can be hung much faster. As the door, frame and architraves are pre-finished in the factory, there is no need for a decorator.
