Why choose a pre-hung door set ?

We have often been asked, what are the differences between purchasing a pre-hung door set and a traditional style of door. We have put together a summary to help understand these differences.

Fitting and installation advantages

• Doors and sashes are CNC precision cut in the factory resulting in significantly better quality and perfect alignment.
• All fittings are precision engineered and factory fitted for complete accuracy, to ensure automatic closure, a secure hold and easy opening.
• Magnetic latches are fitted for soft closure. Flush fittings reduce the risk of snagging clothing.
• Frames include an acoustic gasket as standard to prevent draughts and improve sound absorption.
• Colour and grain structure of the door can match frame and architrave to ensure consistency.
• Due to frame design and construction, greater tolerance levels can be absorbed in the width and height. This will guarantee a good fit every time even if the walls are not plumb.
• Architraves are telescopic, allowing a tolerance within the wall reveal depth. This requires less labour to install as there is no need to cut the linings to suit the wall width.
• Frames and doors can be installed later in the programme reducing the risk of damage.
• No trimming required to fit door sashes, no need to re-lacquer the edges.
• The undercut at the bottom of the door is allowed for, requiring no trimming and resealing of the bottoms of the doors.

Cost benefits

• Doors and frames are pre-assembled and pre-finished in the factory reducing installation time and cost significantly.
• Installation of doors on a new build project can be zero rated for the whole order, assisting with cashflow.

Disadvantages

• Zakuna pre-hung door sets are bespoke, made to individual customer order and can not be bought from stock. A typical lead time of 10-14 weeks should be allowed.
• Due to doors being fitted later in the build programme, the adjacent skirting can not be completed until doors are installed.
