Sliding Sash Timber Windows

Zakuna’s modern day version of traditional timber Sash Windows can incorporate either box or spring sashes. These are perfect for projects where architects are looking to create beautiful period properties but also need to meet current Building Regulations, along with the client’s requirement.

Box sashes which uses pre-stretched nylon cords, weights and pulleys to counter balance the sashes in the traditional way suitable for conservation areas and new builds, which capture historical detail while providing modern performance. Spring sashes are a more economical alternative, using a spring loaded mechanism. This allows for a smaller rebate and is often used in new builds where a flush reveal has been detailed by the architect.

Timber Sash Windows are made to order, available in a choice of frame profiles and glazing bars, along with a variety of specifications to ensure that aesthetic, thermal and acoustic requirements are achieved. Internally glazed providing a secure anti-burglar solution and easier maintenance. 

Timber Sash Windows are made to measure and can be made in a choice of configurations to suit your requirements. Fire escape windows can be configured to match your design, and to comply with Fire Safety Regulations Part B1.

** Values are tested for 1230mm x 1480mm single opening window. Double glazed and argon filled windows with 24mm thickness glass unit, “warm edge” spacer and two layers of Low-E coating achieves a U value of 1.3 W/m²K.

Our windows are made to your exact sizes.

Sash width: 280mm - 1600mm, sash height: 350mm -2450mm.

Direct glazed width: 250mm - 3500mm, height: 250mm -  2500mm.

Materials, Finishes & Options

Only engineered timber is used to manufacture our windows. This provides superior strength, stability and a knot-free finish - qualities for which our products are renowned. Standard woods are Pine (finger-joint or clear faced), Oak, Larch and Meranti. Other species of traditional (Eucalyptus, Mahogany) or exotic (Hemlock, Oregon, White Saraya) timber available upon request. All timbers are carefully selected and treated. 

Windows are fully factory finished using the highest quality ecological spray applied, water based, micro-porous finishing system. The finishing coat is elastic and moves together with the wood to let the wood breathe.

A wide variety of RAL and stain colour options are available to meet our customers’ requirements. All of our paints and lacquers are environmentally friendly, ecologically clean and harmless to the environment.

We offer double glazed units up to 24mm width, with different performance characteristics – energy saving, solar control, noise reduction, safety, fire resistance. A choice of glazing bar styles can enhance the design, either face fixed and/or set within the glass unit. Thermo spacers bars are available in a range of colours to match the wood finishes. Our range of modern obscure glass patterns will add a good level of privacy for any room.

Our modern handles are elegantly designed in a wide range of colour finishes with locking options. 

A colour choice of gaskets are available to blend discreetly with the window finish.

A choice of trickle vents, in frame or sash, glazed in vents, and acoustic vents can be specified to comply with building requirements.

Cill extensions can be incorporated to our timber windows with projecting sizes: 40mm (134mm overall), 60mm (154mm overall), 80mm (174mm overall). External aluminium cill plates and drip rails can be specified for additional protection from the element. Standard colours: white, brown, silver or any RAL colour upon request.
